A 1000 mL Erlenmeyer flask is the perfect vessel for making yeast starters. Recommended for 5 gallon batches. Its tapered shape makes it perfect for swirling without spilling. Borosilicate glass has resistance to temperature shock. Unlike regular glass, you can transfer the flask from stovetop to ice bath without damage! This heat-resistant flask can be used for brewing wort to propagate yeast cells prior to pitching. Can be used with a stir plate.
This is the same 1000ml Erlenmeyer Flask that is included in our Yeast Starter Kit.
Not recommended for contact with electric burners, which can break the glass. Gas stove is safer. The “double boiler” method is the safest. Bring water to a boil in a kettle outside of the flask, which heats up the water inside the flask. This makes it easier to move the flask off of heat and if glass should break or boil over the kettle will keep the mess contained.

Hand washing recommended. It’s not advised to put this flask in a dishwasher. This is a general laboratory student grade flask, which may have small imperfections that will not affect use.
